Ingredients
 

For the meatballs:

  • 1 lb. 450g Ground beef
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • ½ cup Breadcrumbs
  • 1 tablespoon Gochujang paste Korean chili paste
  • 1 Egg
  • ¼ cup Green onions thinly sliced
  • Cooking spray

For the sauce:

  • ¼ cup 50g Brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Gochujang paste
  • 1 tablespoon Grated garlic
  • 1 tablespoon Grated ginger
  • cup 80ml Soy sauce (low sodium)
  • 1 teaspoon Sesame oil
  • ¾ cup 180ml Water
  • 2 teaspoons Cornstarch + 1 tablespoon water

For garnish:

  • Sesame seeds
  • Spring onions

For serving:

  • Cooked rice

Instructions
 

  • DIRECTIONS
    1. Make the meatballs: preheat oven to 450F (220C).
    2. In a large bowl, mix ground beef, salt, pepper, Gochujang paste, egg and breadcrumbs.
    3. Form into balls and place the balls in a baking pan and bake for 15 minutes.
    4. Make the sauce: In a skillet/pan heat 1 tablespoon of oil. Add grated ginger and grated garlic, cook for 1-2 minutes. Add brown sugar, Gochujang paste, soy sauce, sesame oil, water and mix well. Cook over medium heat for 4-5 minutes.
    5. Meanwhile in a small bowl mix cornstarch and water. Pour the mixture into sauce, cook, stirring constantly, until slightly thickens.
    6. Add the meatballs, reduce the heat to low and cook for 3-4 minutes. Cover the meatballs with the sauce.
    7. Turn the heat off, sprinkle some sesame seeds and chopped green onions.
    8. Serve with rice.

  1. Can you use Thai Curry paste instead of Gochujang paste, which is so hot? And can you substitute panko bread crumbs for regular bread crumbs an have it still taste ok?
